]]> Prior to the founding of schools by the I-Foundation, Hinduism was the only major world religion which did not have a dedicated faith school in the UK. The I-Foundation founded the first Hindu faith school in London to be funded by the government. The Krishna Avanti school opened in February 2010. The organisation has since opened additional Hindu faith schools, with more schools planned for development.

The idea for Avanti began in 2003 and our first school was opened in 2008 with its purpose to contribute to society through the systematic pursuit of human values and spiritual development.

]]> 2010 saw the official opening of the first Hindu state-funded school, Krishna Avanti Primary School. With its wood-clad buildings, large expanses of light and grass-covered roofs, the Krishna-Avanti Primary School in Edgware, north London, proclaims its respect for the environment. At its heart is the temple, above which rises a white tower, carved out of marble in India. Inside, pupils chant each morning in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, before lessons that include meditation and yoga. Pupils will study the national curriculum, but also tend the garden and learn Hindu concepts such as the equality of all living things.

In addition, students from Krishna Avanti Primary School and Avanti House Secondary School in Harrow were asked to entertain guests with traditional Lord Rama-inspired music and singing. Also in attendance was Avanti friend Shrutidharma Das, who presided over ceremonial proceedings and prayers.
